Revelation 18
Babylon’s Fall Announced
A mighty angel declares “Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great!”
Babylon has become a dwelling place for demons and uncleanliness
The nations and kings have been seduced by her immorality and luxury.
God’s People Called Out
A voice from heaven says: “Come out of her, my people.”
Believers are warned:
- Do not participate in Babylon’s sins.
- Do not share in her judgment.
God remembers her wickedness and will judge her completely.
The World Mourns Babylon
The kings of the earth mourn because their political power is gone.
The merchants mourn because no one buys their goods anymore.
- A long list of luxury items listed
The sailors mourn because their trade has ended.
Heaven Rejoices
While the world mourns, heaven rejoices because God has judged Babylon for persecuting His people.
Babylon’s Final Destruction
A mighty angel throws a large millstone into the sea saying Babylon will be thrown down forever.
Babylon is guilty of:
- Deceiving the nations
- Killing God’s prophets and saints
Revelation 19
Rejoicing in Heaven
Heaven praises God because:
- Babylon has been judged.
- God’s justice has prevailed.
The word “Hallelujah” appears four times and is the only occurrence in the New Testament.
- הַלְלוּ־יָהּ (Hallelu-Yah) “Praise Yah (the LORD).”
The Marriage Supper of the Lamb
The church is pictured as the Bride.
Christ is the Bridegroom.
The Bride has made herself ready wearing fine linen,
- which represents The righteous deeds of the saints.
Those invited to the marriage supper are called blessed.
John attempts to worship the angel, but the angel refuses.

Christ Returns
Heaven opens. Jesus appears riding a white horse.
His titles include:
- Faithful and True
- The Word of God
- King of kings
- Lord of lords
He
- wears many diadems (royal crowns).
- Has eyes of fire
- Has a name no one knows but Himself!
- A robe dipped in blood
- A sword from His mouth
He judges and wages war. He rules “with a rod of iron.”
- Psalm 2
he Beast Defeated
An angel in the sun summons birds for “the great supper of God” to eat their flesh.
The beast, the false prophet, and their armies gather against Christ.
Christ defeats them immediately.
The beast and false prophet are thrown alive into the lake of fire. The remaining armies are destroyed.
- And the rest were slain by the sword that came from the mouth of him who was sitting on the horse, and all the birds were gorged with their flesh.
Revelation 20
Satan Bound
An angel who holds the key to the bottomless pit binds Satan for 1,000 years. He is thrown into The Abyss.
He can no longer deceive the nations during this period.
The 1000 years
John sees:
- Thrones.
- On them:Those who are able to judge
- Those beheaded for Christ, those who have not received the mark
The above is called the “first resurrection” .Those who share in it:
- Reign with Christ for 1,000 years.
- Called priests
- Are not harmed by the second death.
Satan’s Final Rebellion
After the thousand years, Satan is released. He deceives the nations, called:
- Gog and Magog
- See Ezekiel 38-39
They surround God’s people. God sends fire from heaven.
Satan is thrown into the lake of fire. There he joins:
- The beast.
- The false prophet.
They are tormented forever.
The Great White Throne Judgment
John sees a great white throne with God seated on it.
The dead stand before God. Books are opened.
- Everyone is judged according to their deeds.
Another book is opened: The Book of Life
The dead are given up from Hades and the sea.
Death and Hades are thrown into the lake of fire.
Anyone whose name is not found in the Book of Life is thrown into the lake of fire.
This is called the second death.
Application
We are told to live for God and not place our hope into anything of this world. Everything will eventually rot away. We should live our lives expectant of Christ’s coming return. He is both the Bridegroom and the King. We know that evil will not prevail forever and that can motivate us into holy living.
