Ezekiel 35

Mount Sier

This chapter is a prophecy against Mount Seir, representing the nation of Edom (descendants of Esau)

God declares judgment against Edom.

  • Their cities will become ruins.
  • The land will be made desolate.

Edom is judged because:

  • They held perpetual hatred toward Israel.
  • They attacked Israel during times of disaster.
  • They rejoiced in Judah’s downfall.

Because of this hostility, their land will remain desolate.

Edom believed they could take over Israel’s land.

God responds:

  • The land belongs to the LORD.
  • Edom will face the same destruction they celebrated.

The nations will recognize God’s justice.

Ezekiel 36

God speaks to the mountains of Israel.

Foreign nations mocked their ruined land. God promises to restore the land.

  • The mountains will produce crops.
  • Cities will be rebuilt.
  • Population will increase.
  • The land will no longer bring shame.

Israel was exiled because:

  • They defiled the land.
  • They practiced idolatry.

Their exile caused God’s name to be dishonored among the nations.

Restoration promise. God will:

  • Gather Israel from the nations
  • Sprinkle clean water on them
  • Give them a new heart
  • Put a new spirit within them
  • Replace the heart of stone with a heart of flesh

God promises there will be:

  • Cities rebuilt
  • Land cultivated
  • People multiplied

The nations will recognize that God restores what was destroyed.

Ezekiel 37

Valley of Dry Bones

Ezekiel sees a valley full of dry bones.

God commands him to prophesy:

  1. Bones come together
  2. Flesh and skin form
  3. Breath enters them

Israel says: “Our bones are dried up.” God promises to restore the nation and bring them back to the land.

Ezekiel joins two sticks:

  • Stick of Judah
  • Stick of Joseph

Symbol:The divided kingdoms will become one nation again.

God promises:

  • “My servant David shall be king over them.”
  • One shepherd for the people.
  • Everlasting covenant of peace.

Application

Do not take pleasure in others’ downfall, trust that God can restore what seems dead, and seek the new heart and life that only He can give.
