The Sanctuary and Most Holy Place
- The man measures the temple sanctuary.
- The Most Holy Place is measured (a perfect square).
- This area represents the inner sacred space of the temple.
Side Chambers
- Three levels of side rooms surround the temple.
- These chambers likely served storage or priestly functions.
- The structure becomes wider on each level.
Western Building
- A large building stands west of the temple.
- Its purpose is not fully explained but may relate to temple service.
Interior Decorations
Inside the temple are carvings of:
- cherubim
- palm trees – similar to Solomon’s temple
These alternate in pattern along the walls.
Other features include:
- wooden altar
- doorways
- decorative panels

Ezekiel 42
Priestly Chambers
Rooms on the north and south sides serve priests.
These chambers are used for:
- eating holy offerings
- storing sacred items
- preparing for temple service.
Holy Garments
Priests must:
- change garments before leaving the sacred area
- keep holy clothing within the temple complex.
The Temple Boundary
The entire temple complex is measured. A large surrounding wall marks the boundary.Β 500 cubits long andΒ 500 cubits broad.
Purpose: βto separate the holy from the common.β
Ezekiel 43 The Glory of God Returns
The glory of God returns from the east. (Godβs glory departed the temple in chapters 10-11). Now the glory fills the new temple.
God declares:
- This temple will be His throne.
- He will dwell among Israel forever.
- Idolatry must never return.
Ezekiel is told to describe the temple to Israel so they will:
- be ashamed of their sins
- learn Godβs design
- pursue holiness.
βThis is the law of the temple: the whole territoryβ¦ shall be most holy.β
The Altar and Sacrifices
- Measurements of the altar are given.
- Instructions for dedication offerings.
- A seven-day purification process prepares the altar for worship.
Application
These chapters show how much God appreciates our worship and reverence. We see the importance of holiness, and how it is separate from other things in our life. But the most exciting thing is God dwelling with His people!
